A Letter to Coach

As a former student-athlete, I know firsthand that coaches can have a lasting impact on a player’s life.
Some coaches are exceptional. They inspire confidence, teach life lessons, and help athletes become the best versions of themselves both on and off the field. Others may struggle to connect with their players or create the environment young athletes need to grow.
The reality is that not every athlete will have the perfect coach. That’s why it’s so important to learn how to take ownership of your own journey.
One of the most valuable lessons I learned as a student-athlete was that your support system doesn’t have to come from just one person. Sometimes it’s a parent, a teammate, a mentor, a former coach, a teacher, or someone in your community who believes in you.
No one can take away your work ethic, your attitude, or your willingness to keep learning.
If you’re feeling stuck, reach out. Ask questions. Build your network. Find people who will challenge you, encourage you, and help you grow.
And if you’re not sure how to start, that’s okay too.
Send the message. Make the phone call. Introduce yourself. Ask for advise. You might be surprised how many people are willing to help.
Your future isn’t determined by one coach, one season, or one opportunity. It’s built by the relationships you create, the lessons you learn, and the resilience you develop along the way.
Keep showing up. Keep learning. Keep growing.
The right people will help you get where you’re meant to go.
